Moving Mess

Oh, yes. This is beautiful, is it not? I post this embarrassing picture to empathize with anyone trying to move in the middle of early pregnancy, and to show others that their house can't POSSIBLY be as bad as this. A little perspective, if you will. lol.

This is our current house. It was built in the 50s or so. Some houses built in the 50s can be really cute! Base housing never falls into this category. lol. Still, we are super thankful for this tiny, run down house. It has allowed hubby to come home for lunch, and made me feel much safer being at home with my children in this big city.

This will be our new house. We are excited to move in. Although this house will be here for the people moving in 50 years from now, I rejoice in it's currency for US, and we will enjoy it for what it is--a new house that is not ours, but will allow us to be close to each other, even when hubby is at work, and for us to live in relative safety. I am already dreaming about decorating it for the holidays (pumpkins for Thanksgiving and lit holly swags for Christmas).
So, while the first photo paints a bleak picture for the next few weeks, soon the mess will be a distant memory in our bigger, more organized new home. Ahhhh.....

Ooh, the new house looks awesome! I want details, too! And thanks for making me feel better about being too tired to clean my bathrooms today...at least the rest of the house is reasonably tidy. :)

thanks for the encouragement, all! erin, yes, hanging in there is about all i can do right now. lol.

heather--isn't it funny how all the houses out west look the same? i'm like "who decided that this style would be western?". lol. it's the same in the east, though. there's a certain "style".

manda, tidiness is something i long for right now. the kids and i did a reasonable job of tidying up yesterday, but i am not sure i can see a difference. the floors are disgusting.

okay--the low down: the house is 1889 sq ft, 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths. it's not the biggest floor plan they have, which bums me out a bit because it was all taken from the kitchen/dining area which is where we do all our schooling. plus, with living on 2 floors, i think it makes things "feel" smaller. they are not making any of the biggest floor plan this cycle, so we got the next biggest. i am still thankful, i'll just have to shuffle our plans a little. maybe take the extra room upstairs and make it a homeschool room along with guest room. i'd love to make the master into a den/homeschool room/guest room, since i just do not need a "master suit", but dh will hear none of it. lol. i'll post more pics when we get in. thanks for being excited with me! :)

oh, and heather, thanks about the color of our dining room! i got it off a pottery barn swatch--it's called "weekend getaway". it's the perfect green.

I love the look of your new house...what a neat color! Are you gaining more space?

While I didn't move in the early stages of my pregnancy, I did move 1000 miles 6 weeks after Laney was born. In my opinion, there really is no good time to move...I loathe moving, period. :-)

Can't wait to see "after" pictures.

Congrats, Steph! What a cute home! I also noticed the wall color on your current home, and thought it pretty. Leave it to us women to notice details like that. Guess its cuz our home is our castle. Your new place is definetly not one we would see in New England. Here everything is alot of Capes, old Victorians, etc. Its neat to see what the trend is elsewhere in the US. How fun to have a blank canvas to play with. Its work, but its fun. And you are so creative. You will quickly make it your home. Congrats again!

thanks, jessi!
we will gain more space--like 700 more sq ft. we have never lived on 2 floors before, though, so i am not sure if it will feel like more space. (??) i've traveled with a newborn (oh, the stops for nursing!), but never moved with one. that would be tough! i seem to always be moving while pregnant. lol.

hey jess!
i have been hoping you would comment and see that i can't get to your blog (it says i'm not invited), and i do not have your email addy. hoping you see this! i LOVE the architecture you guys have up there. i'd love to have a little cape cottage myself. or a craftsman. lol. now i am dreaming.
